Cuarteto Q-Arte

Since its formation in 2010, the Q-Arte Quartet has been characterized in the exploration, diffusion and interpretation of Latin American and contemporary music introducing new sonorities and scenic profiles. The quartet combines the academic rigor of a string quartet, with the vibrant roots that characterize Latin America. His repertoire includes more than ninety works by Latin American composers, which have been interpreted in different scenarios, making the Quartet an ambassador of this music around the world


Q-Arte is made up of professors linked to the National University of Colombia, the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana and the Universidad de los Andes. The teaching work of its members has prompted the Quartet to collaborate in various training workshops aimed at new generations of musicians. Additionally, it is the manager of the international festival of string quartets FestiQ-Artetos, a biannual event that has been held since 2014.


The quartet Q-Arte studied under the guidance of Richard Young, member of the Vermeer Quartet (USA), and has maintained an academic and artistic dialogue with important groups such as the Latin American Quartets, Kronos, Borodin, Avalon, Miami, Casals and Quiroga. Among his record productions are: "Gustavo Leone: String Quartets"; "4 + 1" Contemporary Music for clarinet and string quartet of Latin American composers; and "Tango Sacro".

Juan Carlos Higuita Estrada
Fiddle

He was born in the city of Medellín, Colombia in 1978. He lived for 10 years in Vienna where he advanced studies of Violin Pedagogy, Violin-Concertist and Violin Masters at the University of Music and the Vienna Conservatory with teachers Timon Hornig and Jussuf Karajev. He participated in master classes and refinements with renowned teachers such as Hermann Krebbers, Gidon Kremer, Zakhar Bron as well as courses in baroque violin and jazz violin and improvisation. He is currently a member of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Bogotá and professor of violin and chamber music at the Central University and the National University of Colombia.

Liz Angela Garcia Castro
Fiddle

He started music studies at the Conservatory of Music of the National University of Colombia, ending them with Professor Antonia Kapitanova. He continued his studies at the Richard-Strauss Conservatory in Munich and the Johannes-Gutenberg University in Mainz, with professors Valery Gradow, Denes Zsigmondy and Anne Shih, among others. He has made numerous master classes with professors Stefano Gheorgiu, Lyana Issakadze, Valery Gradow, Raul Teo Arias and Denes Zsigmondy. He completed a master's degree in violin performance at Fort Worth with Professor Michael Shih. Since 2005 he is a full-time professor of violin and chamber music at the Conservatory of Music of the National University of Colombia.

Sandra L. Arango Calderón
Viola

Violist graduated from the Tolima Conservatory. Later he entered the National University under the tutelage of master Aníbal Dos Santos. He was a member of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Bogotá, which grants him a study commission abroad. He finished his studies at the Mozarteum University with maestro Thomas Riebl and his assistants Veronica Hagen and Predrag Katanic. He has received master classes with the renowned violists Joseph de Pasquale, Diemut Poppen, Wilfried Strehle, among others. She is currently part of the Bogotá Philharmonic Orchestra and is professor of the viola chair at the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, the Juan N. Corpas University Foundation and the Conservatory of Music of the National University of Colombia.

Diego García Castro
Cello

He was born in Bogotá in 1976. He advanced his studies at the National University of Colombia, with professors Julio Gutierrez, Svetoslav Manolov and Henrick Zarzycki and later he studied Postgraduate in Mainz with Patrick Demenga and Julius Berger, continuing them in Augsburg with Julius Berger, Sebastian Hess and in Vienna with Wolfgang Aichinger. Classes of chamber music he has received with Bernhard Tluck, Hartmut Tröndle in Augsburg and in Vienna with members of the Artis Quartet, as well as with Teresa Leopold and Marielena Fernandes. He is currently a teacher at the National, ASAB and Andes Universities and combines them with an intense activity of chamber music of different formats and genres.
